Each year, ALA sponsors National Legislative Day in Washington, D.C. In an effort to  support participation by academic/research librarians in our state, the Alabama chapter of ACRL (AACRL) annually provides two $500 stipends (with the option of combining into a single $1,000 stipend) to AACRL members interesting in participating in National Legislative Day as a member of the Alabama delegation. Upon returning from Legislative Day, recipients of the stipends are expected to write a column for an upcoming issue of the AACRL newsletter highlighting their experience, and use the experience to increase their participation as an active library advocate.
