In today’s environment of constrained budgets and limited space, cooperative collection development by academic libraries is essential. This workshop will explore cooperative collection development projects and will feature two guest speakers.

Timothy Cherubini, Director of Regional Services for LYRASIS, will speak about issues, potential pitfalls, and planning for cooperative collection development projects.
Leslie Horner Button, Associate Director for Library Services at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, will speak about a cooperative collection development project to reduce unnecessary monographic duplication within the Five Colleges Consortium.

Panelists from Alabama libraries will speak about cooperative collection development efforts within the state including cooperative sharing of books, cooperative purchasing of electronic resources, cooperative retention of print journals, and cooperative preservation of digital collections. Attendees will have the opportunity to discuss and share ideas for cooperative collection development projects.
